"Give me a woman who loves beer and I will conquer the world."

German cars are valued better than American cars because they are made to exact perfection and anal driven precision. In fact, all German products - medical equipment, locomotives, airplanes, and electronics are made with such painstakingly meticulous standards, that Germany was the leading exporter of goods from 2003 to 2008. Germany's GDP is unsurpassed by any other nation in Europe, 37 Fortune Global 500 companies are headquartered there, and they have the Autobahn... enough said. As you would imagine, beer is (and always has been) produced under very strict and specific guidelines and laws that don't ask for perfection, they demand it. Originally, German breweries had to adhere to the purity law (Reinheitsgebot) that states beer could only contain water, barley, and hops. The law was enacted in 1516, and dictated the way beer in Germany was made until its amending in 1993 (Vorläufiges Biergesetz), when Germany allowed yeast (for bottom fermented beer), different kinds of malt, and sugar for top fermented brews. The law still exists today, but only for beer entirely made in Germany.

As a result of the law, the most popular style of beer in Germany is Lager, including Marzen, Bock, Pilsner, Kolsch, Doppel, and Helles. Since the Purity Law was changed to include other beer related ingredients, Wheat Beers (only top-fermented) have risen to popularity. Beer Festivals, (including Munich's 16-18 day Oktoberfest) are popular year-round, as well as beer gardens. Beer Steins are popular drinkware made of stone and decorated very ornately. It is a commonly held belief that they began including lids during the height of the Black Plague in order to prevent diseased flies from flying into people's beverages. And though the German's live a very calculated and civilized lifestyle, they are second only to The Czech Republic in terms of beer consumption per capita. Work hard, play hard as they say.

Prost.
